Work Life Balance in Education
Avoiding pouring from an empty cup
Service Description
“When [anyone] is too long gone from home, they are less and less able to propel themselves forward in life. Instead of pulling in the harness of their choice, they’re dangling from one. They’re so cross-eyed with tiredness they trudge on right past the place of help and comfort. . .Their fuse burns shorter and shorter. Popular culture calls this ‘burn-out’ but it’s more than that, it’s hambre del alma, the starving soul.” – Clarissa Pinkola Estés Course Description There is a point, or various points in our life, which require as well as demand of us to go deep within. Sometimes it comes along with ease, at other times it stops us in our tracks (demanding our attention after we’ve avoided it for far too long!). In such moments we rarely have a choice, we need to pause, then act accordingly in order for our spirit to survive. This is what we will experience through story and be able to relate to, reflect on and apply to our own lives. The notion of a starving soul is quite interesting, as opposed to the one of being burnt out. Though they both make sense – when we are burnt to a crisp we are also hungry for something else, something more, we need nourishment – yet our creative fire does not burn us, it feeds us – at least it should if we listen to it. So let us learn how to burn with a flame that is our own.
